Sam, Jack and Chris are close friends brought together by a shared passion for wind and board sports. Between them, the team has stood on international podiums, earned a multitude of national titles, and spent years travelling, training, and pushing the limits of their sports. Together, they started West Coast Wind Sports to share the stoke and help others discover the freedom and fun that comes with riding wind and water.
Sam Medysky
Sam Medysky is part of the first generation of kiteboarding groms, having learned the sport in 1998 at just eight years old with his father, Daniel, on the sandy shores of Lake Huron. In 2001, his father founded one of Canada's first kiteboarding schools, Kiterider.ca. Immersed in the sport from an early age, Sam quickly progressed and by 13 won the junior division at the US Open Velocity Games.
He has since claimed seven Canadian national freestyle titles, earned podiums on the world tour, competed in elite events like the Red Bull King of the Air, and was named the 2014 AWSI Kiteboarder of the Year. Beyond competition, Sam has played a key role in instruction, gear development, and sales, serving as the Canadian distributor for Ozone Wind Sports.
After 27 years of chasing the wind around the world, Sam settled on the West Coast and is now based in Squamish, BC. He works as a first responder while continuing to push the boundaries of kiteboarding and foiling, and fostering community engagement through local instruction and events.
Chris Rasman
Chris Rasman is a professional snowboarder and a well-respected voice in backcountry snowboarding and water sports on the West Coast. Originally from Vancouver, BC, Chris has called the Sea to Sky Corridor home for nearly 20 years. He has built a strong career with over a dozen video parts, 10 magazine covers, and multiple appearances in the Natural Selection Tour, including a victory.
Chris also coached at Camp of Champions and Momentum for several summers, helping develop riders of all levels. Growing up surfing, he has always drawn inspiration from the ocean. In fall 2018, he discovered hydrofoil surfing and was quickly hooked, becoming one of the very first adopters of wing foiling in Squamish.
With over six years of dedicated experience, Chris has mastered a wide range of foil disciplines including wing foiling, prone surf foiling, wake foiling, downwind foiling, and the parawing. His passion for these sports runs deep, and he has spent years refining technique, equipment, and progression strategies in the unique conditions of the Pacific Northwest.
Jack Rieder
The original "West Coast kite kid" born and raised in the Sea to Sky region. Jack grew up immersed in the maritime lifestyle of the Pacific Northwest. He began his journey on the water through sailing, racing dinghies competitively and earning two Canadian national titles in the Opti class at just 12 years old. It wasn't long before Jack discovered kiteboarding, a moment that would shape the rest of his life.
After graduating high school, Jack committed to kiteboarding full-time, competing internationally while completing his Bachelor's degree through online studies. At 16, he won the Canadian Junior Freestyle Championship, and went on to claim two national freestyle titles in the men's open category, achieving top rankings on both the GKA World Tour and the Kite Park League.
Beyond competition, Jack served as manager of the Squamish Windsports Society, helping foster a safe and inclusive environment for wind sports enthusiasts across the Sea-to-Sky corridor. Today, he continues to pursue his love of wind and water — still chasing wind, waves, and the next challenge.
